Delco Man Wanted in Water Park Stabbing; Large Party Shut Down in Jersey; Temple COVID-19 Outbreak

Authorities are searching for a Delaware County man for attempting to abduct his son and stabbing another man at a South Jersey water park last month. 30-year-old Rashawn Parker Jr. of Chester is charged with attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault, violating a restraining order, child endangerment, and weapons offenses. It happened around 12:30 p.m. August 18 at Sahara Sam's Oasis Water Park in West Berlin on the 500 block of Rt. 73 North. Parker does not have custody of his son, but tried to take him while at the park. A man and a woman who were with the child stepped in to stop him. Parker punched the woman and stabbed the man in the chest. Their names have not been released. Parker left without the boy.

A South Jersey homeowner has been charged after police broke up a large pool party at his home with several hundred paid guests. It happened on Sunday, 8/30, on the 1500 block of Jarvis Road in Sicklerville. Gloucester Township Police received numerous calls for loud music, a large crowd, and vehicles parked in the neighborhood. Officers estimated there were 250-300 people with few wearing masks. They each paid $100-$150 admission. 56-year-old Lionel Mincey was issued citations for noise violations, maintaining a nuisance, and littering after the street was covered in trash and broken bottles. 25 parking summons were also issued for illegally parked cars. The case was referred to other departments for further investigation.

Philadelphia health officials are worried about the rise of coronavirus COVID-19 cases at Temple University since college classes started. At a briefing on Tuesday, 9/1, Philadelphia Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley said, "Overall, these numbers are concerning and the rate of rise is even more concerning. There clearly is an outbreak occurring among Temple students." There have been 212 positive cases of the virus among students. Many of those live off-campus and could pose a risk to spreading the virus in the community. Temple paused in-person instruction through Friday, 9/11, in response to the uptick of cases. However, many of the cases are linked to off-campus housing arrangements and small social get-togethers and not necessarily going to class. Farley warned students, "You should assume that everyone around you is infected, stay in your room," Farley said. "Otherwise, this outbreak could grow quickly and could threaten the rest of the campus and the rest of the city." The city is now recommending against gatherings of any size for students. Students should go out only when essential and make sure to wear a mask.
