| Woman Thrown/Killed in Mantua Crash; Camden Teacher Charged Sex Assault; Bloomsburg U Goes Virtual |

Two mothers were killed and a teen injured after a car lost control and struck them while walking on the sidewalk in West Philadelphia on Wednesday night, 8/26. It happened around 9:30 p.m. on the 600 block of N. 35th Street Near Mount Vernon St. in Mantua. A 30-year-old, a 58-year-old and her 14-year-old daughter were walking to pick up food. A Ford Taurus driven by a 19-year-old female hopped the curb and struck the trio. The 30-year-old, identified as Nicole Fundenberg, was hit so hard she went across the street and through the front door of a vacant home, landing in the living room. The 58-year-old woman, identified as Zenobia Murray, was found lying in the street. The teen had leg injuries. The car ended up crashing into a home creating structural damage. The driver stayed at the scene and is being tested for possible DUI. All four were taken to the hospital, but the two mothers were pronounced dead after arrival.
A Camden County high school teacher has been arrested for repeatedly sexually assaulting an underage student. 36-year-old Bridget Sipera is charged with one count of second-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. She was also charged with one count of second-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child for crimes in Gloucester Township. She could face more charges. The assaults began in January 2019 and continued until March 2020. The 17-year-old was a student in her class at Camden Catholic High School. Sipera admitted to committing the assaults in different towns. She is being held at the Camden County Correctional Facility. (see photo below)
Bloomsburg University, part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, announced that it will be moving to full remote learning after 90 people have tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19. All but one of those case are students. "Unfortunately, the circumstances have changed, and we have seen a concerning trend in positive COVID-19 cases within the BU community," Bloomsburg University President Bashar W. Hanna wrote. "After consultation with my leadership team, the members of our Council of Trustees, and the Office of the Chancellor, I have decided that, effective Monday, August 31, BU will transition to remote learning for all courses in progress." Bloomsburg was already running a hybrid of in-person and virtual classes. Students will not be required to leave residence halls, but will be reimbursed fees if they do decide to leave. Also, all on-campus clubs and activities are directed to suspend in-person activities, but virtual events are ok. A decision for the third session of the Fall Semester (Oct. 7- Nov. 24) will be made by September 21. The breakdown of student infections included: 67 were off-campus, 14 were living on campus, and 8 isolated at home.

Philadelphia Phillies players have decided not to play this evening's game, Thursday 8/27 6:37p, at the Washington Nationals.
The NHL has decided to postpone Thursday's playoff games. That includes Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders Game 3.
Both moves arein response to the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, WI last weekend.
The Philadelphia Eagles announced that they will start the 2020 season without fans in the stands. The Home Opener is set for Sunday, September 20 1 p.m. vs Los Angeles Rams. |
