Philadelphia Police believe that a pregnant woman who was shot and killed on Thursday afternoon, 7/16, was not the intended target, but that the shooter was looking to hit her boyfriend. It happened around 2:30 p.m. on the 2500 block of West Berks Street. 25-year-old Shaliyah Davis was shot in the head while sitting in an SUV. Her boyfriend took off running (he did have a gun himself) and was followed by the shooter who fired more shots. That exchange was captured by a surveillance camera. Davis was taken to Temple University Hospital where she and her unborn baby died hours later. The motive behind the shooting is unknown. Initially it was thought to be a domestic incident, but not anymore. Police are continuing to investigate and are looking for the suspect. Homicides are up 30% from this time last year.

Montgomery County officials have released guidelines for reopening schools this fall. The Office of Public Health developed the recommendations in collaboration with county school superintendents. County Commissioner Dr. Valerie Arkoosh said. "Our primary goal is to support a school environment that is as safe as possible for the students, faculty, and staff while providing much needed in-person education." These are general guidelines. Individual schools districts and schools may adopt differing rules depending on specific situations.

Cases of coronavirus COVID-19 are on the rise around the country prompting Pennsylvania to require travelers from a long list of states to quarantine for 14-days upon arrival. Villanova University's student base comes from all over the country. This fall semester the school plans to hold a hybrid of in-person and online classes. Students will be returning to campus starting August 11 and classes resume August 17. Villanova is asking that all students self-quarantine at home for 14-days before coming to campus. Villanova will also require that all students be tested for COVID-19 and will be sending out test kits. Those tests will be paid for by the university. More information about the tests will be communicated to students next week. The school says that the combination of self-quarantine at home and tests will satisfy the commonwealth. Students from affected states will not have to arrive two weeks early to quarantine in PA for 14 days before school.
