NJ Gov Requires Mask Indoors and Outdoors; 12yo Injures Hand w/ Fireworks; 2 Men Struck by Lightning

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Wednesday, 7/8, that masks or face coverings are now required both indoors and outdoors whenever you cannot maintain proper social distancing. He will sign an executive order later today. This order will be enforced and local law enforcement could issue a ticket, although he admits enforcement will be difficult and hopes people will comply with wearing one. Murphy wants to prevent a surge in new cases like those happening in other parts of the country. New Jersey also has imposed a 14-day quarantine for anyone traveling from 19 different states.

UPDATE: Face coverings are now REQUIRED in outdoor public spaces when social distancing is not practicable.

A 12-year-old boy suffered serious injuries to his hand while playing with an explosive device on Tuesday night, 7/7, in Kensington. It happened around 9:30 p.m. near G Street and Allegheny Avenue. The boy was with a friend and lit some sort of explosive device. He held it with his left hand too long and it exploded. Philadelphia Police officers on patrol nearby heard the loud explosion and responded to the scene. The injured boy had run home. Police took the boy and his mother to St. Christopher's where he had surgery on his damaged left hand. Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said, "The 12-year-old boy suffered severe injuries to his left hand. His left fingers and left hand are seriously injured. Right now, he is in critical condition, however, it's nothing life-threatening." Investigators are trying to determine what type of explosive it was, but they believe it could have been an M-80 or a quarter stick of dynamite. Both of those are illegal.

Two Philadelphia-area men were struck and killed by lightning in northeastern Pennsylvania earlier this week. It happened around 2:30 p.m. on the 400 block of Tube Drive in Granville Township in Bradford County. 43-year-old Jason Gamba of Havertown, Delaware County and 34-year-old Craig Kelemen of Philadelphia were working on a deer stand on a wooden platform in a tree when a thunderstorm came through. They climbed down and took shelter under the platform. Lightening struck the stand and then travelled down an aluminum ladder that Gamba and Keleman were in contact with. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The other two men, John Maiale and his son, Joseph Maile, were not in contact with the ladder, Gamba, or Keleman. They were taken to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Trauma Center for observation. They are from Franklin Square, New York. Gamba was the co-owner of Velo Car Wash in Andorra. Kelemen was the general manager.
