DeSean Jackson Apologizes For Anti-Semitic Posts; NJ Primary Day; Man Draws Gun in Old City

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson has issued an apology after posting a series of controversial Instagram posts on Monday night, 7/6. He posted a quote supposedly attributed to Hitler. Jackson also published two posts featuring Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan who is considered an anti-Semite and homophobe. He has since removed the offending messages and issued a video apology. (see below) The Eagles released a statement that said in part, "We are continuing to evaluate the circumstances and will take appropriate action. We take these matters very seriously and are committed to continuing to have productive and meaningful conversations with DeSean."

DeSean Jackson's Instagram post read: "Hitler said, 'because the white Jews knows [sic] that the Negroes are the real Children of Israel and to keep Americas [sic] secret the Jews will blackmail America. The [sic] will extort America, their plan for world domination won't work if the Negroes know who they were. The white citizens of America will be terrified to know that all this time they’ve been mistreating and discriminating and lynching the Children of Israel.'"





Tuesday, July 7, is Primary Day in New Jersey. The date was set earlier this spring and moved due to concerns from coronavirus COVID-19. Governor Phil Murphy also mandated a nearly all mail-in election. All Democratic and Republican registered voters were mailed a ballot. Other unaffiliated voters were sent an application to register with a party and then receive a ballot. Primaries for President, Senate, and House and some State House districts are included in this primary. Ballots must be postmarked by 7/7 or dropped off at a county drop box or county board of elections office by 8 p.m. Counties will be running in-person polling places, though only half will be open. Find your polling location. Your in-person ballot will be cast as a 'provisional ballot' until election officials can confirm that you did not also send in a mail-in ballot. It will take several days to count all the mail-in ballots. Delaware is also running a Presidential primary today. You have until 8 p.m. to return absentee ballots, or vote in-person. Philadelphia Police are investigating after video of an incident in Old City on Sunday, 7/5, has spread online. It happened outside Infusion Lounge on S. 2nd Street just below Market Street. The video shows a man, reportedly Jamie Atlig the owner of Infusion Lounge, holding a gun on an unidentified black man standing in the street. The man in the street was holding a bike lock. Several people were yelling at Atlig to put the gun away, which he eventually did and sat down. The man in the street left the scene. Prior to the video, the man had been riding his bike down the street and was yelling about social distancing at diners at outside seating areas along 2nd Street. A witness said that Atlig stood up and pulled out the gun, then the man pulled out the bike lock. The bystanders were able to diffuse the situation. No one was hurt.
