A man who was shot and injured by a Philadelphia Police officer after he allegedly attacked the officer with a box cutter has been charged with attempted murder. 22-year-old Brian Anderson is also charged with aggravated and simple assault, possession of an instrument of crime, and recklessly endangering another person.

It happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday, 6/9, on the 5400 block of North 6th Street. The 25-year-old female officer responded to a call in North Philadelphia and found Anderson trying to get into the front window of a house. Anderson then came at the officer with the box cutter, grabbed her from behind, and tackled her to the ground. The officer then shot Anderson in the thigh. He was taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.

"We are relieved that Officer McGovern was not more seriously injured, and that this event did not result in the loss of life," said Commissioner Danielle Outlaw, adding, "We are also acutely aware of the impact of an officer-involved discharge, not only on the involved officer and civilian, but also on the communities we serve. Accordingly, as is the case with all officer-involved discharges, we are proceeding with a thorough and objective investigation through our bifurcated process. Officer McGovern has been placed in administrative duty status as the investigation ensues."

Two Bucks County men have been charged with sexually assaulting the same victim at different, completely unrelated times. 60-year-old David Hofmann of Bristol Township is accused of sexually abusing a child beginning when the victim was only 5 years old in 1995 and continuing for a number of years. 57-year-old Louis Aiello of Penndel is accused of raping that same boy when he was 11 years old starting in 2001 to 2007. Bucks County DA Matt Weintraub says, "Hofmann and Aiello were both friends of the victim's family. We don't know of any association between the two which is something we will look to explore further as we continue our investigation."

A bill making its way through the NJ Legislature would allow for restaurants and other businesses to close off sidewalks and streets to allow for more outdoor space for eating, drinking, and retail. Streets could be closed off to vehicular traffic, allowing only pedestrians, between Thursday-Sunday to allow businesses to move tables or displays out onto the sidewalks and roadways. This would allow restaurants/bars room to serve more customers as social distancing, capacity, and mask guidelines are still in effect. The bill has already passed the Senate and advanced out of committee in the Assembly. Philadelphia has a similar provision in its 'outdoor dining' guidelines for 'street closure.'
