NJ Gov Lifts Stay-At-Home Orders; Teen Shoots/Kills Girlfriend's Father; Whale Capsizes Boat in NJ

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Tuesday, June 9, that he will be signing an executive order lifting the stay-at-home orders for the entire state. Social distancing and proper hygiene guidelines, including wearing mask or face coverings should still be followed. Limits on outdoor gathering will be increased to 100 immediately, 250 on June 22, and 500 on July 3. Indoor gatherings will be lifted to either 25% or 50 people, whichever is lower. Pools open June 22. All outdoor recreation, other than amusement parks, water parks, and arcades, can reopen.

Philadelphia police are looking for a teenager who shot and killed his girlfriend's father in North Philadelphia on Monday night, 6/8. It happened around 8:30 p.m. on the 2600 block of North Bonsall Street. Police say that the 19-year-old man was fighting with his girlfriend inside her home. Her father intervened in the fight. That is when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the father multiple times in the head, neck, and back. The father was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspect fled the scene, but authorities know who he is and what kind of car he was driving.

Two men are ok after they were tossed from their fishing boat when a humpback whale breached right next to it causing it to capsize just off the New Jersey shore on Monday, 6/8. It happened close to shore near D Street in Seaside Park, NJ. The two fishermen were aboard their 25-foot boat, when the large whale, possibly a humpback, jumped out of the water and struck their vessel. The men were thrown into the water, but were able to swim to shore. The boat eventually washed up and was taken away by a trailer. "The whale did what whales usually do - they're looking for food, and they don't pay attention," said Bob Schoelkopf, the director of the Brigantine-based Marine Mammal Stranding Center. The center took DNA samples from the bottom of the boat to determine the exact species of whale.
