Knife-wielding Man Shot/Killed By Philly Police; 5yo Boy Falls From Window; NJ Unveils More Reopens

A Philadelphia police officer shot and killed a knife-wielding suspect who was chasing a SEPTA employee in Frankford on Friday afternoon, 5/29. It happened around 5 p.m. on the 1500 block of Pratt Street in the SEPTA employee lot near the Frankford Transportation Center. Police say that a 28-year-old officer was flagged down by the SEPTA employee. "The shirtless man was chasing him down the street," Philadelphia Police Staff Inspector Sekou Kinebrew said. The officer gave the man several commands to stop and drop the box cutter. That's when the man lunged at police. The officer fired once and hit the suspect in the abdomen. He was transported to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured. The investigation is ongoing.

A 5-year-old boy suffered injuries to his head and face after falling from a 2nd story window in South Philadelphia on Friday evening, 5/29. It happened just before 7:30 p.m. on the 2500 block of South 7th Street. The boy was playing in a bedroom when he fell out of the window. He was transported to Temple University Hospital. His condition is not known.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced on Friday, 5/29, various activities that can resume in the next few weeks. Child-care services can reopen to all clients on June 15. Non-contact organized sports can resume on June 22. Youth day camps can resume on July 6. Murphy also said that he hopes to be able to raise the limits on indoor capacity to allow religious services to resume by June 12. Horse racing will also resume next weekend, but there will be no fans in the stands.
