| Connecticut Student Captured in Maryland; 3yo Dies in Car Accident, Woman Arrested; Atilis Gym Sues |

The Connecticut college student wanted for murder and other crimes over the weekend has been taken into custody in Hagerstown, Maryland on Wednesday. 23-year-old Peter Manfredonia has been on the run since Sunday, showing up in New Jersey and Pennsylvania on the way.
He was wanted by Connecticut state police for killing 62-year-old Ted DeMers with a machete and wounding another man on Friday, 5/22, in Willington, CT. He then held up another man and stole guns and his truck. On Sunday, Manfredonia drove 70 miles away to Derby, CT, and killed 23-year-old Nicholas Eisele. He kidnapped Eisele's girlfriend and stole her car. They drove to a rest stop in Columbia, NJ. He left the girl and car there and took a ride share across the state border to a Walmart in East Stroudsburg, PA. He was seen walking along railroad tracks in the area. A firefighter in Duryea, PA, about 50 miles away, saw a man matching his description. A black Hyundai Sante Fe that was stolen on Tuesday from around Duryea was found at a convenience store in Chambersburg, PA on Wednesday. A man fitting Manfredonia's description was seen on the store's surveillance video. Manfredonia then took a ride share from that Sheetz store to Hagerstown, Maryland.
A 3-year-old child has died and a woman is under arrest after multi-vehicle accident in Philadelphia's Mayfair section on Wednesday evening, 5/27. It happened around 6 p.m. on the 6200 block of Frankford Avenue near Magee. One of the drivers kept driving and crashed into several more vehicles along the way. The child was trapped in the vehicle. Once freed they were rushed to Jefferson-Frankford Hospital. They were pronounced dead at 6:36 p.m. The female driver of the other car was arrested on suspicion of DUI and fleeing the scene of an accident.
UPDATE: 28-year-old Brionna Wright has been charged with murder, homicide by vehicles while driving under the influence, among other related offeneses.
Atilis Gym in Bellmawr, Camden County, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, 5/27, against New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy's stay-at-home order after the facility was ordered shutdown by a judge through the state Health Department on Friday, 5/22. The lawsuit claims that Murphy's executive order closing businesses is unconstitutional. They also seek an injunction to the judge's order to allow them to reopen in the meantime. Atilis reopened last Monday, 5/18, despite gyms still being ordered closed under New Jersey's stay-at-home order. They were open 5/18, 19, 20, and 22. The gym closed on Thursday, 5/21, after receiving a health department order for plumbing issues, which they say happened when their toilets clogged with paper towels. The gym owners received several citations and summonses each day they were open and several gym members were also cited after leaving the facility. The gym took various social distancing and safety measures inside the building while operating. |
