Racist Vandal Sought in Center City; Man Arrested for North Philly Fires; CDC Releases New Guidance

Philadelphia Police are searching for a man wanted for spray painting racist graffiti on several Center City buildings early Sunday morning, 5/17. Police were called to the report of vandalism around 1:20 a.m. at the Coventry Deli on the 2000 block of Market Street. When they arrived they found two swastikas spray painted on the outside of the building. While officers were conducting a survey of the area they found another swastika and the word 'Rome' with an arrow painted on a newsstand on the 1900 block of Market. Another was found on a building under construction on the 2300 block of Market Street. The suspect was caught on surveillance video at the various locations. He is described as a white or Hispanic male, 20 to 30 years old, wearing a black t-shirt with a logo on the back, tan pants, and white sneakers. Philadelphia Police arrested a suspect wanted for setting a series of fires in North Philadelphia on Wednesday morning, 5/20. It started around 8:30 a.m. on the 1500 block of West York Street. Firefighters responded to a fire there at a vacant house. Another fire was called in a short time later at vacant warehouse on the 2600 block of North Broad Street. There was also a car fire tied to the suspect. Police had a description of a man wearing a windbreaker and jeans and carrying a large book bag. A man fitting that description was arrested at 69th Street Station in Upper Darby.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC has released new resources for states, municipalities, communities, businesses, and organizations as areas across the nation slowly work towards reopening the economy and resuming life. The first resource is a detailed 60-page document on healthcare, contact tracing, testing, and infection control as well as gating criteria to move through reopening phases. The second resource is for organizations and businesses on how to operate safely once allowed to reopen. There is guidance for schools, bars/restaurants, summer camps, youth sports, colleges, swimming pools, small businesses, and more.
