NJ Gov Murphy Extends Emergency Another 30 Days; Horse Rescued From Pool; DRPA Reopening Cash Lanes

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has extended the state's public health emergency by another 30 days. The declaration was first signed in March and renewed in April. The declarations automatically expire after 30 days and must be renewed each time. Murphy said that even though the state is making progress the underlying conditions for the order still exist. The extended order won't stop the six-part 'road to recovery.' The public heath emergency gives the executive branch powers under the Emergency Health Powers Act to coordinate statewide responses, purchase supplies, and order quarantines and business shutdowns. "If this extension signals one thing, it is this, we can't give up one bit on the one thing that we know is working in this fight: social distancing. Remember, in the absence of a vaccine, or even proven therapeutics for COVID-19, our only cure is social distancing," Murphy said.

Chester County fire and rescue crews saved a horse after it had fallen through the cover of a backyard pool on Wednesday morning, 5/6. It happened around 11:30 a.m. on Hunt Club Lane near Providence Road in Malvern. The horse either jumped or went through a wooden fence surrounding the pool and stepped out onto the taught cover of the pool. The weight of the large animal caused the cover to tear and the horse fell through the hole. Crews were able to climb out on the cover and put a harness around the horse and pull it out to safety. The horse was then able to get up on its own. No word on where the horse came from.

The Delaware River Port Authority announced that it will begin to accept cash tolls at four of its bridges beginning 6 a.m. on Monday, May 11. Toll collectors will return to cash lanes on the Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Betsy Ross, and Commodore Barry bridges. They will be wearing face coverings and there will be plastic shields at the toll booth windows. Drivers are encouraged to wear a face covering while going through a cash toll lane. Cash tolls have been suspended since March 26. Anyone not using E-ZPass during this time had their license plate photographed and a bill sent in the mail. Cashless tolls will continue until Monday.
