| Drone Light Show Over University City; NJ Parks/Golf Course to Open; Don't Flush PPE; Man Stabbed |

Healthcare workers, first responders, and other front line and essential workers were honored in University City with a special aerial drone light show on Tuesday evening, 4/28. The tribute was designed and executed by Verge Aero, a firm based out of Pennovation Works at the University of Pennsylvania. 150 drones flew out of Franklin Field and displayed messages of gratitude and encouragement during the 8-minute show to the nearby Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital. Verge Aero has done drone light shows around the world for festivals, music videos, commercials, sporting events, and more.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is expected to sign an executive order on Wednesday, 4/29, that will reopen state and golf courses. County parks may reopen at discretion of county governments. The order will take effect at sunrise on Saturday, May 2. Social distancing will continue to be mandated. It is also recommend that you stay close to home and not travel. Passive recreation including running, hiking, biking, fishing, boating, kayaking, and horseback riding will be permitted.
- Parking will be capped at 50%.
- Playgrounds, pavilions, visitor centers, and restrooms will remain closed.
- Picnics, organized activities, and team sports remain prohibited.

Philadelphia officials are urging residents to stop flushing personal protective gear (PPE) down the toilet. The Philadelphia Water Department's pumping stations are seeing 12 times the amount of clogging than normal. They usually get 100 lbs per year, but are now getting 100 lbs per month. Do not flush masks, gloves, and wipes. Throw them in the trash. Do not discard them on the ground or in parking lots. Throw them in the trash. They'll wash into storm drains and cause clogs there. Even if wipes say 'flushable' on the label, officials say that they do not break up and still cause clogs, so throw them in the trash. "We strongly recommend against flushing anything but toilet paper. Even wipes sold as 'flushable' often don't have the science or regulations to back up that claim, so it's a pricey gamble," Philadelphia Water Department Commissioner Randy E. Hayman said. "If you use wipes for your hands or anything else, please toss them in the trash and dispose of them like you would other household waste. It may seem like a small thing, but it can have a big impact at a time when we need everyone to work together." Clogs can lead to water main breaks. You can even backup your own home's system.
A dispute over dogs led to a stabbing in West Philadelphia on Tuesday night, 4/28. It happened around 11:30 p.m. at 46th Street and Woodland Avenue. The 38-year-old victim arrived at the hospital with a stab wound to the shoulder. He is in stable condition. The suspect had fled the scene, but police know his identity. |
