| Blue Angels/Thunderbirds Flyover Philly Tues 4/28 2p; Must Wear Masks in DE; #CanceltheRents Protest |

The U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbirds, and the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, will be flying over Philadelphia, Trenton, Newark, and New York City on Tuesday, April 28, #AmericaStrong. The two squadrons are flying together to show solidarity with and to honor all front line and essential workers during the coronavirus COVID-19 crisis including healthcare workers, first responders, military, and other essential personnel. This is the first mission of several planned over the coming weeks. There will be 6 aircraft from each squadron taking part in the flight. Residents will be able to see the flyover from their own homes, should maintain all social distancing guidelines, and avoid gathering in groups.

Flyovers in Newark, New York City and surrounding boroughs will start at noon and last approximately 35 minutes. Flyovers in Trenton will start at 1:45 p.m. and last approximately 10 minutes. Flyovers in Philadelphia will start at 2 p.m. and last approximately 20 minutes. A detailed flight route will be released on Monday.

Delaware Governor John Carney issued a modification to the coronavirus COVID-19 State of Emergency requiring everyone to wear a mask or face covering when out in public. The order takes effect on Tuesday, 4/28, at 8 a.m. Children, 12 and under, are not required to wear a mask, but can with adult supervision. Children 2 and under should "not wear a face covering because of the risk of suffocation." Residents (13+) must wear a mask when they are riding public transportation, inside any business or store, at a healthcare provider, or at an outdoor public area where maintaining 6-feet is impractical. Workers must wear masks while working and businesses must provided those masks. Businesses must refuse entry to any customer that does not have a mask, unless the customer has a medical condition that precludes wearing one. Proof of medical condition is not required. If a business provides medication, medical supplies, or food, there must be an alternative way for a customer without a mask to get goods, such as curbside pickup or delivery. Businesses should post signs reminding customers the have to wear a mask.

About 100 people inside 70 cars participated in a nationwide "Cancel the Rent" protest in Center City Philadelphia on Saturday, 4/25. Similar demonstrations were held in approximately 40 other cities in the United States. The protest was held by the Philadelphia Tenants Union, the Party of Socialism and Liberation, and others. The groups want rents to be canceled during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. They say "if we can't work, we can't pay!" May 1 is this coming Friday and that means a new round of rent payments due for many people who have been out of work for weeks. A moratorium on evictions is in place for at least another month, if not more, depending on your circumstance. The demonstrators also fear debt from not paid rent piling up, and a potential wave of evictions when the moratorium is lifted. Landlords still have bills to pay and mortgages to maintain. Many have been willing to negotiate terms with tenants who are struggling. |
