Temple University announced that it is instituting pay cuts as the coronavirus has caused significant loss in revenue. The school says that it is missing out on money from canceled conferences and events as well as refunds to students for unused housing, meal plans and parking charges. The school had already implemented a hiring freeze. The salaries of "officers, deans and advisors to President Richard Englert will be reduced by 10% beginning in May." Also, "non-bargaining unit employees" who earn more than $100,000 will see a 5% reduction. The school hopes to reduce the overall budget for next year by 5%.

A Kensington woman has been charged in the death of her 7-year-old son on Wednesday, 4/15. 26-year-old Natasha Franks is facing attempted murder, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare, unsworn falsifying, and related charges in the death of 7-year-old Tazmir Ransom. The boy was rushed to St. Christopher's Children's Hospital around 7 p.m. on Sunday, 4/12, with difficulty breathing. They later determined that he had multiple severe injuries. Tazmir died at the hospital on Wednesday. The nature of the injuries and how he received them have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.

A man has been arrested for a deadly shooting on the Market-Frankford El late last month. 21-year-old Tahmir Banks of Lansdowne is charged with murder and related offenses. Police say that he shot 41-year-old Nicholas Troxell inside a moving train between the Erie-Torresdale and Tioga Stations around 12:30 a.m. on March 30. Troxell was discovered on the train by police suffering from a gunshot to the head when the train stopped at the Allegheny Station. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he died a short time later.
