New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed an executive order on Tuesday, 4/7, closing all state and county parks. The order takes effect at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and will continue until the public heath hazard is over. The order states that 'instances of non-compliance' with social distancing guidelines have continued in parks 'despite warnings and orders to disperse gatherings, ejections from the parks, and the issuance of citations by law enforcement.' Murphy said, "We've seen far too many instances in our parks where people are gathering and socializing in groups. We need to flatten the curve. I do not take this action lightly. Some of my fondest memories with my own children are beautiful spring days in parks playing soccer and enjoying our family. But my focus, and my sole mission in life right now, is the health of every New Jersey family." You can read Executive Order 118 at: https://nj.gov/infobank/eo/056murphy/pdf/EO-118.pdf
Pennsylvania state prison inmates have been making masks and other protective equipment in-house. "As part of the Department of Corrections preparedness planning, in mid-March, I directed all of our employees and inmates to wear masks," said Pennsylvania Corrections Department Secretary John Wetzel. "We didn't want to take from the community supply, so we began making the masks in-house at several of our state prisons." The prison system's garment factories started producing masks on March 17. Pennsylvania Correctional Industries, the prison's manufacturing division, has been making gowns, anti-bacterial soap, and disinfectant. They've made over 185,000 masks, 36,000 bars of soap, 250 gowns, and 1,600 packs of disinfectant. The masks have been distributed throughout the DOC system. Employees were given three masks and inmates were given two masks each.
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission abruptly opened trout season two weeks ahead of schedule on Monday, 4/6. The move was designed to avoid the rush of crowds that usually accompany opening day. "The trout we have been stocking have had time to spread out, and so should you," Tim Schaeffer, the agency's executive director, said in a statement. The Fish and Boat Commission is recommending that you follow all guidelines given by Governor Wolf and the CDC if you go out to fish. Stay close to home (don't travel to a waterway across the state), wear a mask, keep at least 6 feet from others, don't share fishing gear, and don't go fishing with anyone other than members of your own household. |
