| Gov Murphy Allow NJ Shore Towns to Restrict Rentals; Pink Donates $500k to Temple Hos; Robber Killed |

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and Superintendent of the State Police Colonel Patrick Callahan announced a new Administrative Order on Saturday, 4/4, that will allow municipalities and counties to impose additional restrictions on short-term rentals. This order is aimed at the state's shore towns. It enables those shore communities to restrict hotels, motels, guest houses, or private residences from accepting transient guests or seasonal tenants. Previously signed Executive Order No. 108, allowed those communities to restrict online marketplaces from arranging and offering lodging. This new order goes into effect at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5. "We have heard too many stories, especially from our shore communities, of people trying to relocate, for the time being, into their towns from impacted areas," said Governor Murphy. "Many of our shore communities lack the health care infrastructure to accommodate an influx of part-time residents. New Jerseyans should stay at their primary place of residence for the duration of this emergency." See a copy of the order here.
Pop star and Doylestown-native, Pink, revealed on Twitter on Friday, 4/3, that herself and her 3-year-old son both contracted coronavirus COVID-19 a few weeks ago. She said that they continued to shelter at home and have since recovered. Pink decided to donate $500,000 to the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund in honor of her mother, Judy Moore. She says that her mother worked there for 18 years in the Cardiomyopathy and Heart Transplant Center. Pink also donated $500,000 to the City of Los Angeles Mayor's Emergency COBID-19 Crisis Fund.
A man was shot and killed while trying to rob a store in North Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon, 4/4. It happened just before 4:30 p.m. on the 2700 block of Germantown Avenue in the Fairhill section. The man in his 20s was attempting to rob the Star Wear store when he was shot five times by the store owner. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he died a short time later. The owner was taken into custody for questioning. The investigation is on going.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced the 2020 class on Saturday, 4/4. NBA players Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Kevin Garnett lead the class. 18-time NBA All-Star and five-time NBA champion Bryant, 15-time NBA All-Star and three-time NBA Finals MVP Duncan, and 15-time NBA All-Star and nine-time NBA All-Defensive First Team selection Garnett were locks to be enshrined in the hall. This year's other inductees are four-time National Coach of the Year Eddie Sutton, two-time NBA Champion coach Rudy Tomjanovich, 10-time WNBA All-Star and four-time Olympic gold medalist Tamika Catchings, three-time NCAA National Championship Coach of Baylor Kim Mulkey, five-time Division II National Coach of the Year Barbara Stevens and longtime FIBA executive Patrick Baumann. The induction ceremony will be held on August 29 in Springfield, Massachusetts. |
