Delaware Moves Primary to June 2, PA Likely; NY Visitors Should Self-Isolate; NJ Essential Business+

Delaware Governor John Carney says that the state's presidential primary originally scheduled for April 28 has been moved to June 2. "Delawareans have a basic, fundamental right to vote. Today's order will preserve that right and allow Delawareans to vote by absentee ballot in the presidential primary on June 2," said Carney. Carney also ordered the suspension of evictions and foreclosures during the coronavirus outbreak. Landlords cannot evict tenants or charge them late fees or interest. Also, lenders cannot commence foreclosure proceedings. Any foreclosures that started before this order cannot proceed until 31 days after the order is lifted. School board elections scheduled for May 12 are delayed until June 16.

The Pennsylvania House approved a bipartisan proposal on Tuesday, 3/24, to move Pennsylvania's presidential primary from April 28 to June 2.

Dr. Deborah Birx, coordinator for the White House Coronavirus Task Force, said on Tuesday, 3/24, that anyone who has traveled from New York should self-quarantine for 14-days. "Everybody who was in New York should be self-quarantining for the next 14 days to ensure the virus doesn't spread to others no matter where they have gone, whether it's Florida, North Carolina or out to far reaches of Long Island," she said. About 56% of the cases in the United States are coming out of the New York metro area.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy expanded the list of businesses deemed 'essential' and allowed to operate under the current coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions. "While we understand that this an unprecedented time for our state, I thank each and every New Jerseyan for using their common sense and staying home as much as possible," Murphy said. The businesses must still observe proper social distancing. Those new allowed businesses include:

- Mobile phone retail and repair shops
- Bicycle shops, but only to provide service and repair
- Livestock feed stores
- Nurseries and garden centers
- Farming equipment stores

Sports
The 2020 Stotesbury Cup Regatta has been canceled. The largest high school rowing regatta in the world has been continuously staged on the Schuylkill River since 1927. It would have been held May 14-16. "The well-being of our athletes, coaches, families, fans, referee corps, and volunteers is at the forefront of this decision. With increasingly comprehensive guidelines being issued by health experts and city, state and federal officials, as well as sporting events at all levels suspending play, we feel it is morally and ethically responsible to make this determination," said Erika McCormick, Regatta Director.

The collegiate Dad Vail Regatta was canceled last week. That was scheduled to be held May 8 and 9.
