Josh Harris Reverses Pay Cut to Sixers/Devils Staff; Homeless Quarantine Hotel; Woman Stabbed in CC

Josh Harris, part-owner of the NBA Philadelphia 76ers and NHL New Jersey Devils and founder of Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment, reversed the announced decision to cut certain employees pay in the wake of the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak. The group had notified at-will employees that their pay could be cut up to as much as 20% starting April 15 through June. That news was met with a flurry of negative comments online by fans. Sixers center Joel Embiid pledged $500,000 this morning towards medical relief efforts and 76ers employees. Harris released a new statement Tuesday, 3/24, walking back yesterday's announcement, "To our staff and fans, I apologize for getting this wrong."

"Our commitment has been to do our best to keep all of our employees working through this very difficult situation. As part of an effort to do that we asked salaried employees to take a temporary 20% pay cut while preserving everyoneâ€™s full benefits - and keeping our 1500 hourly workers paid throughout the regular season. After listening to our staff and players, itâ€™s clear that was the wrong decision. We have reversed it and will be paying these employees their full salaries. This is an extraordinary time in our world â€“ unlike any most of us have ever lived through before â€“ and ordinary business decisions are not enough to meet the moment. To our staff and fans, I apologize for getting this wrong," Harris said in a statement.

Philadelphia officials are working to turn a Center City hotel into a site to quarantine homeless people or anyone else that does not have a place to self-isolate. The site will be at the Holiday Inn Express at 13th and Walnut Streets in Center City. The quarantine site will also offer treatment for those who test positive and are showing symptoms. The site is not currently open. The homeless are technically exempt from the city's stay-at-home order by the nature of their situation, but the city is working on expanding shelter space.

Philadelphia police are investigating after a woman was stabbed and robbed inside Suburban Station early Tuesday morning. It happened around 5 a.m. near 16th Street. The woman suffered non life-threatening injuries. Police did take one man into custody.
