Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf ordered mass closures in Montgomery County due to the coronavirus COVID-19 for 14 days to create significant social distancing starting Friday, March 13. The order includes all schools, community centers, gyms, entertainment venues, theaters, sporting events and concerts. "No mass gatherings should be held, including conferences and rallies. By closing these facilities, we can control the spread of this disease, that’s the hope. And we can redirect our public safety and health officials to where they are needed the most," Wolf said. Critical infrastructure will remain open including pharmacies, urgent care facilities, primary care, outpatient services, long-term care facilities, gas stations, grocery stores, government ,and mass transit. Wolf strongly recommended the closure of non-essential retail facilities. There are 13 presumptive positive cases of coronavirus in Montgomery County.
Philadelphia officials announced on Thursday afternoon that they are banning any gathering of greater than 1,000 for the next 30 days. They are recommending that gatherings of greater than 250 be canceled. Schools will not be closed at this time.
Philadelphia Archbishop Nelson Perez has released a statement regarding special dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday mass. Some catholics in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia are under quarantine orders. Local authorities are suggesting everyone stay home and at least avoid gatherings over 250 people.
“Effective immediately, and until further notice, in union with the Bishops of Pennsylvania, I have dispensed the faithful of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass.
Despite the suspension of the obligation to attend Sunday Mass, all regularly scheduled masses will remain open to the public for those who wish to attend.

Live Nation has pulled back its tours both domestically and internationally until at least the end of the month due to the effects of coronavirus. Many cities around the world are putting restrictions on large gatherings of over 500 or 1,000 people and shows are getting canceled anyway. Tours affected include Billie Eilish, Jason Aldean, Zac Brown Band, Cher, Kiss, Post Malone, Tool, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Chris Stapleton and more. They have not announced when missed dates might be rescheduled. |
