The warning period for being caught on camera speeding through work zones on Pennsylvania highways is now over. Starting Wednesday, 3/4, drivers can be fined when caught driving 11 mph over the posted work zone speed limit in an active zone. The first violation will merit a warning. The second will be a $75 fine and subsequent violations will be $150 fines. The Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement (AWZSE) zones will have prominent signage indicating its usage at that work zone at that time. You can find the locations of work zones online along with more details on the program at https://workzonecameras.penndot.gov/. At this time, there are active zones on Rt. 1 in Bucks County near the Pennsylvania Turnpike, on the Roosevelt Expressway (Rt. 1) near Germantown Ave in Philadelphia, on the Northeast Extension (I-476) north of the Lansdale exit in Montgomery County, and on Rt. 309 in Bucks County between Hatfield and Quakertown.

Dobbins High School in Philadelphia was evacuated twice on Wednesday morning, 3/4, because of both fires set inside the school and then a smoke bomb. It happened just before 9 a.m. on the 2100 block of West Lehigh Avenue in North Philadelphia. Police say that the school was first evacuated because fires had been set in the boy's and girl's bathrooms on the fifth floor. Firefighters extinguished those fires and students were then let back into the building. Once everyone was back inside, the school was evacuated again because someone set off a smoke bomb. A teacher that attempted to extinguish the smoke bomb was taken to Temple University Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was declared an arson and an arrest has been made. Classes resumed for the rest of the day.

Police are investigating a murder-suicide in Lycoming County in north central Pennsylvania where a man shot his girlfriend before killing himself while two children were in the home on Tuesday evening. 3/3. It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Mt. Zion Road in Penn Township. Police received a 911 phone call from 36-year-old Wesley Minier requesting EMS for his child. When first responders arrived at the home, they discovered Minier's body in the kitchen and his girlfriend, 29-year-old Kristin Page Walter, in a bedroom. They both had been shot. It has been ruled a murder-suicide. A 9-year-old boy was in the living room watching television and a 6-year-old girl was also in the house. They were not injured. The children's relationships to the deceased have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
