A man is in custody after stealing an ambulance and leading authorities on a wild chase through Northeast Philadelphia on Friday night, 2/28. It started as a call to a domestic disturbance around 9:20 p.m. at the Roosevelt Inn on the 7600 block of Roosevelt Boulevard. A man with just boxers on starting being combative with medics and jumped into the cab of the ambulance. He then drive it towards police officers. One officer opened fire, shooting four times, and hit the man twice in the leg and once in the side. The officer was hit by the ambulance and was taken to Nazareth Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Despite being shot, the suspect continued to drive the ambulance around the city, smashing his way around the Northeast for a little over an hour. The pursuit ended around 10:40 p.m. on the 2700 block of Tolbut Street. The man was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital for treatment. His identity and condition are not known at this time. Watch video clips from the wild chase:

Temple University is shutting down in-person academic operations at its Rome, Italy, campus for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester and has told students to make arrangements to return home due to concerns over the novel coronavirus (COVID 19). A letter was sent to all Rome students informing them of the closure. (see letter). Interim Director and Acting Dean Fay Trachtenberg said the decision was made because the "Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of State elevated their travel warnings to Level 3 for all of Italy" on Friday, 2/28. Students "will need to make arrangements to gather your belongings, leave Italy and return home." Students should contact the school as soon as possible so that they can assist in the process. The Temple Rome faculty will begin to offer online classes on March 9th so students will not miss out on their studies. There have been over 1,000 cases of the infection and at least 29 deaths in that country so far.

Police are investigating after a person was killed in a shootout in the parking lot of an LA Fitness in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, on Friday night, 2/28. It happened around 10 p.m. at the King of Prussia Town Center at Village Drive and South Goddard Boulevard. Police arrived to find one man suffering from a gunshot to the upper body. He was rushed to Paoli Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two men opened fire on each other after they left the gym. The shooting stemmed from an earlier argument between them on a basketball court. The second man is being questioned by police.
