12yo Steals Delivery Driver's Car; Truck Stuck in Ocean in Wildwood; Chemical Spill in Montco School

A 12-year-old boy Wilmington boy was arrested after he stole a Chinese food delivery driver's vehicle and fled from police on Thursday, 2/27. He is charged with one count of felony vehicle theft, one count of misdemeanor resisting arrest, one count of reckless driving, and one count of leaving the scene of a property damage accident. It happened at the Paladin Club Apartments in Wilmington. The boy ordered Chinese and waited for the delivery driver to arrive. He then jumped into driver's car and drove off. New Castle County police encountered the vehicle driving around the apartment complex and turned on their lights. The vehicle slowed down and the boy jumped out and ran off. The car continued to drfit into a patrol car. Police apprehended the boy at a neighboring apartment complex, the Colony North Apartments. He was taken to New Castle County Police Headquarters. The boy was released to his parent's on $1,450 unsecured bail. No one was injured and the vehicles had minor damage.

A man was forced to swim to shore after his truck became almost fully submerged in the Atlantic Ocean in Wildwood on Wednesday night, 2/26. It happened around 7:30 p.m. near Spencer Ave. The Wildwood Fire Department said that dense fog caused poor visibility and unfavorable beach conditions made the situation difficult. The man, a Moreyâ€™s Pier employee, was able to get himself onto the roof of the pickup truck. He then jumped into the water and swam to shore. He was immediately treated for possible hypothermia and respiratory issues and then taken to Cape Regional Medical Center. The Cityâ€™s Public Works Department had to pull out several vehicles that had become stuck in the sand.

An elementary school in Upper Dublin Township, Montgomery County, was evacuated Friday afternoon, 2/28, following a chemical spill. It happened around 1:30 p.m. at Fort Washington Elementary School on the 1000 block of Fort Washington Avenue. The school was evacuated due to an unknown chemical spill in the hallway. No word on any injuries. This is a developing story.
