Vote for Philadelphia's I Voted Sticker; Free Library Cancels Overdue Fees; Pony Tied Up in DE

Voting is now open on nine designs for Philadelphia's new 'I Voted' sticker for 2020. The finalists represent a wide age range from grade schoolers through adults. Themes include the Liberty Bell, City Hall, SEPTA, etc. Pennsylvania's primary is Tuesday, April 28th. The winning design will be available at Philadelphia polling centers for that election. You can vote at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ivotedsticker. Voting Ends 11:45 p.m. on March 1.

Starting on Friday, 2/14, the Philadelphia Free Library has stopped charging patrons fees for overdue books. It has also forgiven all historic late fines and removed them from customer records. That doesn't mean you can keep books out indefinitely. Under the new policy, customers will be reminded when they don't return materials by the due date. After 30 days, they will be considered lost. Customers will then have to either return, pay for, or replace the lost or damaged materials. "By saying goodbye to fines, we're welcoming back the nearly 88,000 cardholders who are currently unable to take full advantage of the library due to owing fines," said Siobhan A. Reardon, President and Director of the Free Library. "We're also anticipating increases in circulation, an uptick in new library card signups, and more overall visits to libraries throughout the city. It's going to be a positive change in many ways, and I'm so proud that we'll be one of the largest library systems in the country to eliminate this penalty."

New Castle County police are looking for a suspect who tied a cord around the back ankles of a pony at a park in Pike Creek, Delaware. It happened earlier this week at the Carousel Park & Equestrian Center in Wilmington. Park workers found the pony named Cierra in a field unable to walk. Someone had tied cords around her back ankles so tightly it was restricting blood flow to the hooves. Police looked at surveillance footage and could only see the grainy shadow of a man entering the stables. Officials say that another pony had been targeted a few months ago.
