Homemade Explosives Found in Caln Township; Dead Man Eaten By Dogs; Man Shot Driving on Kelly Drive

Authorities are investigating after two 'homemade' explosive devices were found in two separate locations in Caln Township, Chester County, this week. The first device was discovered by a postal worker as he was delivering mail. That happened around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, 1/21, at the intersection of 14th Avenue and Olive Street. The Montgomery County Bomb Squad responded. On Wednesday, 1/22, officials received a tip that someone had heard an explosion under a train trestle on Monday, 1/20. Pieces of a detonated explosive were found at that location, S. Caln Road and Olive Street, that look similar to the other device. They were both about 6 inches long by 2 inches wide and wrapped with black and red tape. If you see another device, do not handle it and stay away. Philadelphia Police are investigating a man's death after family members discovered dogs eating his dead body inside his West Philadelphia home on Wednesday evening, 1/22. The family had not heard from the 67-year-old man and went to his home on the 100 block of North 50th Street. They looked in the window and saw a body that had been mauled by three dogs. They then called authorities. Animal control removed two 10-month-old Cane Corso/Bull Mastiff mixes and their mother. Police say that the man may have died of natural causes and the dogs were left starving without food. The home had been ransacked. The medical examiner will have to determine cause of death.

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a man was shot while driving in his car on Kelly Drive on Wednesday evening, 1/22. It happened around 8 p.m. near the Girard Avenue Bridge. The 35-year-old man was traveling westbound when shots rang out. He was hit in the side and taken to Jefferson University Hospital in stable condition. Several other bullets hit his car. A female passenger in the car was not hit. Police are trying to determine where the shots were fired. No arrests have been made.
