Democratic Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey announced on Monday, 1/13, that he was suspending his campaign for president. The senator thanked his supporters in a tweet. Booker failed to qualify for the December primary debate and also did not meet the polling requirements for Tuesday's debate in Iowa. His campaign could not raise enough funds to keep up with the other presidential candidates. Booker will run for reelection in the Senate this year. There are now 12 candidates left running for the Democratic nomination.

The Philadelphia Fire Department is battling a blaze in a row home in West Philadelphia on Monday afternoon, 1/13. The call came in around 4:15 p.m. on the 900 block of South Alden Street. The fire started on the first floor of a row home. It has spread to at least two adjacent properties. No injuries have been reported. Crew continue to fight the fire. No word on how it started.

Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia is consistently one of the deadliest stretches of roadway in the United States each year. On Monday, 1/13, the Philadelphia Parking Authority began installing the first speed cameras along the 12-lane highway that will automatically catch speeders and mail them tickets. "We will begin installing and administering a total of 32 speed enforcement cameras at eight locations along Roosevelt Blvd immediately," said Philadelphia Parking Authority Executive Director Scott Petri. The first 60 days will be a trial period and offenders will get a warning. Eventually, speeders will get a real fine. All automatic violations are reviewed by police before being mailed. Drivers 11-19 mph over the limit are fined $100, 20-29 mph is $125, 30+ mph is $150. The cameras are meant to reduce driver's speeds overall and increase safety.
