18-month-old Shot/Injured, 7 Dead This Weekend; Man Stabbed in Center City; Amazon NJ Soiled Diapers

An 18-month-old was injured in a double shooting in Germantown on Sunday afternoon, 1/12. It happened shortly before 5 p.m. on the 100 block of East Pastorius Street. A 26-year-old man standing outside a home was holding his young nephew when a car pulled up. A gunman opened fire. At least four shots were fired. The boy suffered a graze wound to his head and the man was hit in the right shoulder. They were taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition. The boy was transferred to CHOP. "He did put himself around the baby when he dove to the ground, probably saving the child's life," said Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter. "As horrible as it is, it could've been way worse. Another half an inch, that child would be dead." No weapons were recovered and no arrest have been made.

Seven people were killed in separate incidents throughout the city since Saturday morning. Mayor Jim Kenney released this statement about the violence:

"This weekend's violence was nothing short of horrific. My condolences go out to the loved ones of the victims whose lives were tragically lost. My prayers are also with the toddler who was grazed by a bullet earlier today. The Police are undergoing thorough investigations and our Community Crisis Intervention Program workers are out in the impacted communities, but we need help from everyone to solve these crimes and keep our neighbors safe. Reducing it is our Administration's top priority. We're investing in proven, data-informed strategies to significantly reduce homicides and shootings. This means expanding our Community Crisis Intervention Program which helps deescalate tensions before they result in shootings; focusing on repeat offenders with Group Violence Intervention; supporting grassroots community groups; and more. There is no single answer to solve violence, but we're confident that our comprehensive efforts will make a difference."

A man was stabbed and killed during a fight on the street in Rittenhouse Square on Saturday evening, 1/11. It happened after 6 p.m. near 17th and Sansom Streets. Police believe the two men involved were homeless. Witnesses say that the men were fist fighting until one pulled a knife and stabbed the other in the neck. The victim was taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he died. Police arrested a suspect and the weapon was recovered. The investigation is ongoing.

A New Jersey woman is claiming that she received a package of soiled diapers from Amazon. Nassly Sales says that she ordered two boxes of diapers for her two daughters like she does every month. She orders from the Amazon Warehouse section where open-box and returned items are sold at a discounted rate. When she received the package, she first noticed it was heavy. After she opened it, she realized the diapers were already soiled with human waste. Amazon says, "We are investigating the situation and are in contact with the customer to make it right." Open box and resold items and supposedly certified before being placed on the market.
