Fiery Fatal Roxborough Crash; FDA Raises Tobacco/Nicotine Age to 21; Crane Fell on NJ House

One man is dead after a fiery crash in Roxborough on Friday morning, 12/27. It happened around 9:10 a.m. near the intersection of Henry Avenue and Dupont Street. A 62-year-old man was traveling southbound on Henry Ave in a Chevy Malibu when he hit a Hyundai Tuscon that was stopped at a red-light at the intersection. The Tuscon spun out into the northbound lanes and caught fire. The driver of the Tuscon was not able to escape the vehicle and was pronounced dead at 9:29 a.m. No word on the condition of the 62-year-old driver of the Malibu or the cause of the crash.

You now have to be 21 or older to purchase tobacco/nicotine products in the United States. Part of the $1.4 trillion spending package signed by President Trump on December 20th amended the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to raise the age from 18 to 21 nationwide. The simple change in age took effect immediately. 19 states and the District of Columbia, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware already had raised the tobacco age to 21.

Per the FDA website, "On December 20, 2019, the President signed legislation to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and raise the federal minimum age of sale of tobacco products from 18 to 21 years. It is now illegal for a retailer to sell any tobacco product - including cigarettes, cigars and e-cigarettes - to anyone under 21. FDA will provide additional details on this issue as they become available." As required by the legislation, @US_FDA intends to publish a final rule updating its current regulations solely to carry out the amendments made by the legislation within 180 days. FDA will provide additional details on this issue as they become available.

A large crane tipped over and onto a house in Hamilton Township, Mercer County, on Friday, 12/27. It happened around noon on the unit block of Miry Brook Road. The crane had toppled over and was left leaning over the home. Crews were there to take down two trees in the rear of the property. The house suffered minimal damage. There were no reports of injuries. See photo below.
