Fatal Stabbing Early Christmas Morning in Olney; Man Killed in Skiing Accident; Meadow Lane Standoff

Philadelphia Police have identified the man accused of fatally stabbing a woman and injuring her son early Christmas morning in Olney. 33-year-old Jose Quino has been arrested and charged with Murder, Attempt to Commit Murder, Terroristic Threats, Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Corruption of Minors, Endangering Welfare of Children, Recklessly Endangering Another Person and Possessing Instruments of Crime. It happened around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, 12/25, on the 5600 block of North Mascher Street. 35-year-old Juana Us-Perez was stabbed multiple times and taken to Einstein Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her 14-year-old son was also stabbed in the upper leg while trying to help his mother. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition. There were six children in the home at the time, ages 8-16, that witnessed the incident. "(They) said the 33-year-old male stabbed the 35-year-old female inside the property, chased her outside, and continued to stab her when she was outside," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. The knife is described as a 10" butcher knife from the kithen. No word on motive. Quino and Us-Perez were either currently or previously in a relationship.

A man was killed in a skiing accident at at Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Lehigh County on Monday, 12/23. According to the coroner's reports, 23-year-old Matthew Rosenstein died of multiple blunt force injuries. The accident happened around 2 p.m. He struck snowblowing equipment and was taken off the mountain by the ski patrol. He died at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest about an hour later. Rosenstein is a native of Upper Dublin, Montgomery County, but had moved to Arlington, Virginia. A suspect who fired at police surrendered after an hours long barricade situation in Allentown early Thursday morning, 12/26. 24-year-old Tyler Hartenstine gave himself up to officers around 5 a.m. It started about Midnight. Police responding to the 700 block of North Meadow Lane for reports of a suicidal man. Hartenstine fired several shots at police from his window. Police returned fire and wounded him. After he surrendered, Hartenstine was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. He faces charges including aggravated assault against a police officer and recklessly endangering another person.
