| President Donald Trump Impeached by Congress; Man Shot at Pet Store; Kenney Bans Flavored Vape Pods |

After a day of vigorous debate, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to impeach President Donald Trump and adopt two articles of impeachment, one for abuse of power and the other for obstruction of Congress. The vote was highly partisan, with all but a couple of Democrats voting for the articles and every Republican voting against. Trump is accused of pressuring a foreign government to investigate a political rival and then obstructing the subsequent Congressional investigation. The House will now turn over the articles of impeachment to the Senate to conduct a trial. The exact timing of when that will happen is not yet known. The Senate is controlled by the Republican party and it is expected that after a trial they will not vote to remove the president from office. The final vote for Article I – Abuse of Power was 230 votes in favor, 197 opposed, 1 present. The final vote for Article II – Obstruction of Congress was 229 votes in favor, 198 opposed, 1 present. Trump becomes the 3rd U.S. President to be impeached, including Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson.
A man was injured during a shooting at a pet store in Delaware County on Wednesday afternoon, 12/18. It happened around 4 p.m. at the PetValu store on the 4900 block of Edgemont Avenue in Brookhaven. Two men had gotten into a fight inside the store and one pulled a gun on the other. Several shots were fired. The victim sustained a graze wound to the leg. He is in stable condition at the hospital. Police do have a suspect in custody.
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney signed two bills into law on Wednesday, 12/18, aimed at reducing youth tobacco use. The first bill bans the sale of flavored e-cigarettes and vaping refill pods as well as products with high nicotine levels sold in stores that minors can enter. Such flavors include mango, berry, birthday cake, maple syrup, cotton candle. Mint and traditional menthol are also restricted. Stores like Wawa, 7-Eleven, gas stations, corner stores, etc. will have to stop selling these flavors. The second bill bans flavored cigarillos which come in flavors like vanilla, mixed berry, and grape. Stores will have a grace period before they start receiving fines. Smoke shops and other stores that only allow adult customers will still be able to sell the flavored products and higher nicotine vape juice. |
