Mark D'Amico Pleads Guilty to State Charges; Students Protest Climate Change; Cat Shot With Arrow

The so-called mastermind and ringleader of a $400,000 GoFundMe scam that defrauded some 14,000 individual donors two years ago has pled guilty to state charges. Mark D'Amico of New Jersey plead guilty to one state charge of misapplication of entrusted property. He will be sentenced to 5 years in prison. His ex-girlfriend, Katelyn McClure, and homeless veteran, Johnny Bobbitt, have already pled guilty to state and federal charges. D'Amico still faces federal wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy charges which he plans to fight. The trio concocted a story that Bobbitt used his last $20 to buy gas to help a stranded McClure. A GoFundMe page was setup and used the feel good story to solicit help for the homeless veteran. Authorities began to investigate the finances on the fundraiser when Bobbitt sued the couple saying he wasn't getting his share of the funds. Officials quickly found it was all a scheme to get money to support a lavish lifestyle and all three were in on the plan. All the donors have been paid back. Mark is expected to pay restitution.

Some Philadelphia students left classes on Friday to join the Pennsylvania Climate Strike protest outside the Municipal Services Building in Center City. The young people are calling for government to take action on climate change. Similar rallies were also held today in Harrisburg, State College, Pittsburgh and Erie.

The Pennsylvania SPCA is looking for a man who shot a cat with an arrow and left it to die in a trash can on Friday, 12/6. A citizen found the cat with the arrow still lodged in its body next to a corner store on the 5900 block of Chestnut Street in West Philadelphia. The cat was taken to PSPCA's Erie Ave headquarters but did not survive. The PSPCA was able to find the cat's owners who say it got out on Thursday night and did not return.
