Officials say that a Berks County couple was killed in their home with a hammer by an unidentified person who then set themselves on fire in a nearby garage on Saturday evening, 11/23. Firefighters responded around 5:30 p.m. to the 900 block of Chestnut Street in Union Township for a garage fire. After putting out the flames, they discovered three bodies. 60-year-old Ira Reed Jr. and 63-year-old Joanne Deluca have been identified. They died of blunt force trauma. The unidentified person is suspected to have killed the couple, as well as several animals. They then went into the garage and poured a flammable liquid on themselves before setting it on fire. That person died of smoke inhalation. The couple's adult son did live with them, but there has been no official identification yet.
