Shooting Outside Lawncrest Wawa; Swimming Canceled at Ursinus College; 3 Dead in Berks Fire

Philadelphia Police are investigating a shooting that happened in the parking lot of a Wawa on Sunday morning, 11/24, in the Lawncrest section. It happened around 6 a.m. on the 4500 block of Castor Avenue. The 41-year-old male victim was walking through the parking lot and was about to enter the store when a vehicle drove by and opened fire. The man was hit once in the back and one time in the left calf. He was taken to Temple University Hospital by police and is listed in stable condition. Police found around 30 shell casings at the scene. No weapon was recovered and no arrests have been made. The investigation in ongoing.

Officials at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Montgomery County, announced on Friday, 11/22, that the college has cancelled the remainder of the 2019-2020 seasons for the men's and women's swimming teams. In a statement, Ursinus said that the teams "...committed violations of the college's anti-hazing policy and student code of conduct" and that "The incident involved alcohol and underage drinking..." An investigation into the incident began in September and recently concluded. No further details of the nature of the incident were given. Head swimming coach Mark Feinberg was placed on probation.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after three people were found dead in a garage fire in Berks County on Saturday evening, 11/23. It happened around 5:21 p.m. on the 900 block of Chestnut Street in Douglassville. Three people and a dog were found dead inside the structure. Police believe the victims were dead before the fire started. Two of the victims have been identified as 63-year-old Joanne Deluca and 60-year-old Ira Reed Jr. The third victim's identification is pending autopsy. State Trooper David Beohm say the home is being treated as a crime scene. Neighbors say that a couple in their 60's and an adult son lived at the home.
