Chester County Woman Fakes Cancer; Sean Kratz Trial This Week; Local Women Shot in CA Police Chase

A Chester County woman has been arrested after faking a cancer diagnosis and then fraudulently collecting online donations. 31-year-old Jessica Ann Smith of Chester Springs claimed that she had colon cancer and was getting treatment at Penn Medicine. She set up a GoFundMe and Facebook Donation under her maiden name. Generous people donated $10,000. "She made people believe that she had a very serious cancer diagnosis. The fact is she didn't have it. She lied about that," said Acting Chester County District Attorney Mike Noone. "On top of that, she lied about her own father's death to get an extra day off from work," said Noone. She faces felony theft charges.

The trial against a Philadelphia man who is accused of helping his cousin kill and cover up the murders of three of four young men on his cousin's Bucks County farm is set to begin this week. Sean Kratz initially confessed to the crimes and was set to plea guilty, but shockingly withdrew the plea in open court. His cousin, Cosmo DiNardo, did plea guilty and is already serving his lengthy term. Kratz is expected to take the stand in his own defense during the trial.

Two Philadelphia-area women were shot and injured by police in Northern California after going on a crime spree throughout the state. 30-year-old Rickita James of Newark, Delaware, and 27-year-old Taleah Johnson of Philadelphia were caught on police body cam being shot by San Mateo Police at the end of a dramatic chase on September 28th. The pair flew out to Los Angeles on September 26th. They rented a car and stole a license plate before driving north. San Mateo officers observed them in a shopping center and attempted to pull their car over. That led to a chase. Police opened fire on the suspects when they tried to drive towards officers in a cul de sac. They are recovering from their injuries. James is being charged with felon in possession of a stun gun, reckless evading, burglary, identity theft and other related offenses. Johnson is being charged with burglary, possession of stolen property, identity theft, shoplifting, among other charges. They are accused of shoplifting from 11 different locations in CA.

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson will undergo surgery on Tuesday, 11/5, on a core muscle injury. He is expected to miss at least six weeks, which could mean he is out for the season. The Eagles said in a statement that Jackson first sustained the abdominal injury on September 15th against the Atlanta Falcons. At the time the "decision was made to proceed non-operatively through rehabilitation." "DeSean worked hard for six weeks to progress to a point where all parties were comfortable with him returning to practice, and then to play in the game yesterday against the Chicago Bears," the organization said in a statement. Jackson was taken out of the game in the first quarter against the Bears after feeling discomfort.
