Man Shot at Club Walks to Closed Hahnemann; PSU Abington Student Arrested; Wells Fargo Sign Policy

A Philadelphia man that was shot in the back at a popular night club early Saturday morning, 10/26, walked to nearby Hahnemann Hospital only to realize that it was closed. It happened around 1:45 a.m. at NOTO Nightclub near 12th and Vine Streets. A fight broke out inside the nightclub. Police are trying to determine if the shooting then occurred inside or outside of the club. The 45-year-old male victim went 2 blocks to the now fully closed Hahnemann at Broad and Vine Streets. He took a cab back to the club and tried to get in his own car to drive to Jefferson University Hospital, but was not able to due to his injuries. Police officers took him to the hospital. He is in stable condition. The club acknowledged that a fight happened inside, but they say that there was no shooting inside. No shell casings were found. The victim, however, says that he was shot inside. Police are looking for the shooter. They are also reviewing surveillance footage.

A Penn State Abington student was arrested and charged Friday, 10/25, after making threats against the college that shut down campus on Wednesday, 10/23. 20-year-old Mohammad Alatmah is charged with terroristic threats, harassment, and disorderly conduct. Just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday, PSU officials sent out an alert saying there was a threat on campus and classes were suspended. A little over an hour later police announced the all clear. The nature of the threat is unknown. Alatmah is due in court on November 4th.

The Wells Fargo Center updated it's sign policy on Wednesday, 10/23. It now states that any sign, banner, poster, or flag's "content may not be political, ideological, or commercial in nature, as determined by Wells Fargo Center staff." The change was prompted by an incident at the beginning of the season. The Sixers played the Guangzhou Loong Lions of China on 10/8 on the first night of the preseason. 33-year-old Sixers' fan Sam Wachs and his wife had signs taken away by security that said "Free Hong Kong" and "Free HK." They were tossed from the arena after Wachs stood on his chair and began yelling the same. The sign policy at the time did not explicitly prohibit political messages, but did give staff the right to determine any sign content inappropriate. That incident happened right in the heat of the controversy over the NBA's relationship with China. Chestnut Hill College announced Friday, 10/25, that they were pulling their advertising from the 76ers, Flyers, and Wells Fargo Center saying, "Our college will not advertise a venue or a team that censors American sports fans..."
