Homeless Man Arrested in Jogger Attack; 6yo Body Found in DE Canal; Ben Franklin-SLA Plan Announced

Philadelphia Police have arrested a homeless man for attacking a woman jogging in the Spring Garden section of the city on Tuesday evening, 10/8. 43-year-old Prevarious Fowler is charged with simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. It happened around 6 p.m. on the 2200 block of Wallace Street. The 30-year-old woman was jogging along. Fowler was outside of Liberti Fairmount Church going through trash bags. When the woman tried to jog past Fowler, he punched her in the face. She was knocked to the ground and he kicked her in the face before fleeing. She was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries. Fowler was arrested on Wednesday morning on the 2100 block of Wallance Street.

Rescue crews have recovered the body of a 6-year-old boy on Thursday morning, 10/10, who died along with his brothers and cousin when their SUV crashed into the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. 6-year-old Ethan Lindsey was found along the bank of the canal around 9 a.m. The crash happened on Sunday, 10/6, around 9:40 a.m. about one mile west of the Sen. William V. Roth Jr. Bridge. His brothers 18-year-old Willis Lindsey and 16-year-old Kyree Lindsey, and his cousin, 12-year-old Eric Lindsey were also killed when the vehicle sunk in the 20 feet of water. Willis was able to save his 16-year-old girlfriend, who was also a passenger, and went back to save the rest but did not resurface. The family was headed to see a brother's football game and made a wrong turn onto the dirt road next to the canal and somehow lost control and ended up in the water.

The Philadelphia School District announced its plans to temporarily move about 1,000 students who have been out of school since their school building was closed due to asbestos. Benjamin Franklin High School students will go to the former site of KHEPERA Charter School, 926 West Sedgley Avenue. The Science Leadership Academy students will go to school district headquarters at 440 North Broad Street and to the other side of Broad Street to Congregation Rodeph Shalom. Students and teachers will report to the new locations of Monday. These locations were chosen after recommendations by the Ben Franklin-SLA Task Force. The school district is still coming up with a plan for making up instructional time lost over the past few weeks. "I want to be clear, the new shared campus for Ben Franklin and SLA will not reopen until three things happen: major construction is complete, environmental testing is conducted, and the building is approved for reoccupancy," Philadelphia School District Superintendent Dr. William Hite said.
