Murder Charge Dropped in Rittenhouse Stabbing; 3 Dead/1 Missing in DE Crash; Home Invasion

A Philadelphia judge ruled in favor of a motion by the District Attorney's office to drop murder charges against a delivery rider accused of stabbing a real estate developer during an altercation in Rittenhouse Square last year. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner filed the motion on Friday, 10/4, to drop third-degree murder charges against 22-year-old Michael White in the July 2018 death of 37-year-old Sean Schellenger. The motion kept charges of voluntary manslaughter and added charges of tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice. The family of Schellenger was upset with the DA office's decision, wanting to leave the decision on the charges up to the jury. White faces 10 - 20 years if convicted. Jury selection began today after the motion ruling. Opening statements are expected on Thursday.

Three family members are dead and a fourth is missing after their SUV crashed into a Delaware canal on Sunday morning, 10/6. It happened around 9:41 a.m. on the south side of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal about a mile from the Sen. William V. Roth Jr. Bridge. The victims include: 18-year-old Willis Lindsey; his brother, 16-year-old Kyree Lindsey; and 12-year-old cousin Eric Lindsey. The third brother, 6-year-old Ethan Lindsey, is missing and presumed drowed. A search and recovery effort has been underway since the accident. Willis helped his 16-year-old girlfriend to shore and went back to help the boys, but did not survive. The canal is about 20 feet deep. The boys were on their way to watch another brother's football game. The cause of the accident is under investigation. Two men are under arrest after a deadly home invasion and kidnapping in Kensington on Saturday night, 10/5. It started just before 11 p.m. on the 2100 block of Susquehanna Avenue. Two masked and armed men kicked in the door of a home. They tied up a 52-year-old man and shot him in the back of the head. When they fled the scene they took two women and a pair of pants that belonged to another man. Police say that the men then tried to break into a second home, this time on the 1700 block of Diamond Street. They fired a shot at the man who answered the door. At this point, the two women were able to break free. The man at the door also fled and notified police. The 28 and 31-year-old suspects were arrested in a alley.
