Search of Police Officer's Home Finds More Evidence; Remains Found in Arboretum; 3 Shot and Injured

A Philadelphia police officer was arrested on Friday, 9/27, on sexual assault charges. 28-year-old Novice Sloan, aka Nayeeb Griffin, was charged with sex assault, indecent assault, and simple assault. The incident occurred on August 8th at his home on the 600 block of East Comly Street in Northeast Philadelphia. Sloan met a 21-year-old woman while on duty. The DA's office says that after several weeks they agreed to go on a date. The woman reported being assaulted to the police shortly after. Police searched Sloan's on Saturday, 9/28, and found evidence that the victim may have been drugged and also video taped without her knowing. "There's also some indication that he may have administered some sort of intoxicant or something that would've rendered her unable to appraise what was occurring at the time," said Capt. Sekou Kinebrew of the Philadelphia Police Department. "The investigation also recovered, without her permission, that he recorded in video form, portions of the assault." Police also found additional video of other women. They believe there may be other victims out there and encourage them to come forward. Sloan joined the 17th District in South Philadelphia in June 2018. He previously worked for the Temple PD where he received an award for saving a family from a fire. His next court date is October 17. He is being held on 10% of $1 million bail.

Police are investigating after human remains were discovered on the grounds of an arboretum in Germantown on Monday morning. The groundskeeper made the finding around 8:45 a.m. at the Awbury Arboretum behind the Francis Cope House on Awbury Road. A skull and bones were inside of a sack and partially buried. The arboretum is closed from dusk to dawn but it is not gated so anyone could come and go. Police do not know how long the remains were there, but workers do not believe they could have been there long. The medical examiner will now perform an autopsy. Three men were injured in a triple shooting in Philadelphia's Overbrook section on Monday night. It happened just before 8:30 p.m. on the 5500 block of Hunter Street. A 21-year-old was shot in the left elbow. Another man was shot in the right hip. They were taken by private vehicle to Lankenau Medical Center and are in stable condition. A 23-year-old man was shot in the left thigh. He was taken to the hospital and is also in stable condition. No arrests have been made.
