Radnor and Villanova Police Departments have determined that there was no active shooter or threat to campus at Villanova University on Monday afternoon, 9/2, after students received a text message alert. The "active shooter" alert was sent to students warning of an incident at St. Monica's residence hall located on South Campus and instructed students to shelter in place and lock/barricade doors. Villanova University Police Chief Dave Tedjeski says the alert was sent out by the dispatcher of Public Safety after approval of a supervisor. It was sent using an abundance of caution and with student's safety in mind.

It started around 5:30 p.m. at the dormitory located on S. Ithan Ave. Radnor Police received a call from a resident reporting the sound of three gunshots. Radnor Township and Villanova police both responded to the scene immediately. Other area officers also responded. They located the complainant and determined the report of gunshots to be unfounded. However, police have not determined the source of the sounds. Some rumors have mentioned that there was a fight and possibly a gun, but those are also unfounded according to authorities. The building was evacuated and swept and students were let back in after it was cleared.

OFFICAL STATEMENT REGARDING VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY INCIDENT:

At approximately 1725 hours Radnor and Villanova University Police Department responded to Saint Monica's Hall on the campus of Villanova University for a report of shots fired.

First arriving officers entered and began clearing the building. Officers determined there was NO THREAT. As a precaution, Officers cleared the entire building and confirmed the threat is unfounded.
Students have re-entered the dormitory and police are beginning to clear the scene.

There will be a media briefing at 7:00PM in front of Saint Monica's Hall.
