Historic Church in West Philly Destroyed; Mother Arrested in Death of Son; Teacher Pleads Guilty

A massive three-alarm fire tore through a 115-year-old historic church in West Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon, 8/27, in West Philadelphia. It started just before 3 p.m. at the Greater Bible Way Temple on the 1400 block of North 52nd Street near Warren St. in the Parkside neighborhood. There were workers on the roof of the church when the fire started. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames and smoke coming from the roof. Everyone inside made it out safely, including around 20 people who stay in the converted rectory which is now a shelter as well as people in an on-site daycare. One person was transported to the hospital for unknown injuries. It took hours to get under control and tamper any hot spots. Most of the roof has collapsed as well as other parts of the building. The church is the former St. Gregoryâ€™s Roman Catholic Church built in 1904. Bishop Benjamin F. Peterson moved his ministry to this location in 1984. The cause of the fire in unknown. Philadelphia Fire Marshal are investigating. ATF is also on the scene.

A Camden mother has been arrested after a Camden County Grand Jury indicted her for the murder of her son, whose remains were found in an alley last fall. 24-year-old Tynaizha Brown, of the 2500 block of South 8th Street in Camden, was indicted with the murder of 22-month-old Jah'vi Brown. She was also indicted for 2 counts of second-degree aggravated assault and 2 counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child in regard to her 5-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter. On October 11, 2018, a passerby found the decomposing remains of Jah'vi Brown near the 800 block of Mount Ephraim Avenue. It was eventually determined that he had not been seen since August 20th. Neither parent had reported him missing until his father, Anthony Burnett went to the Bellmawr Police Department "regarding a custody issue" on December 6th. On January 9th, 2019, the medical examiner made a positive identification using DNA. They also determined the death to be homicidal violence of undetermined etiology and ruled the manner of his death a homicide. Tynaizha Brown is being held in Camden County Correctional Facility pending hearing.

A music teacher at Archbishop John Carroll High School on the Main Line in Radnor Township, Delaware County, has pled guilty to having sexual contact with students. 30-year-old Jeremiah Triplett of Dresher, PA, was charged with institutional sexual assault. He is accused of having sex with one female student and 'making out' with a second female student in his office. He reportedly gave them THC-infused edibles and furnished alcohol. They would also vape nicotine products and 'make out' while blowing the vapor back into each other's mouths. Institutional sexual assault is a third-degree felony. He faces seven years when sentenced on November 18. The school's theater teacher is also facing charges of institutional sexual assault
