Homeless Attack Arrest on Cynwyd Heritage Trail; Penn Prof Settles Wife's Estate; Frankford Shooting

A homeless man is under arrest after attacking another homeless man with a machete along a trail in Bala Cynwyd on Tuesday morning, 8/20. It happened around 4:30 a.m. between the Cynwyd Heritage Trail and the Schuylkill River in the Bala Cynwyd section of Lower Merion Township. The two men were fighting when on of them, 25-year-old Romeo Gagliardi, pulled out a machete and struck the victim several times in the head and ribs. He is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, possessing instrument of crime, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and harassment. Bail is set at $25,000. There is an encampment of a few dozen homeless persons above the Cynwyd Heritage Trail. Lower Merion Police are trying to get those people leave the area.

A former University of Pennsylvania professor. who bludgeoned his wife to death has settled with her estate in a civil case. 68-year-old Rafael Robb agreed to relinquish 75% of his nearly $3 million in investment and pension assets in a settlement agreement. Her family had won a $124 million judgment in a civil suit. Robb pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter of his wife Ellen in 2006. At the time, she had retained a divorce lawyer and was planning on moving out. Rafael initially told police that he found the house burglarized and his wife dead. He later admitted that he killed her during an argument while wrapping Christmas presents. Rafael was released from prison in 2017 after serving the maximum 10-year term.

A man was shot and killed in Frankford early Thursday morning, 8/22, and his was caught on camera by the Real-Time Crime Unit. It happened just after midnight on the 1700 block of Bridge Street near Hawthorne. Officers saw the shooting on live surveillance and sent police to the scene. A 30-year-old man was found shot multiple times. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 23 shell casings were found at the scene. "They saw a male wearing a white-hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, running south on Hawthorne. When he got to the intersection of Bridge and Hawthorne that's when the shots were fired," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. "We also found numerous other businesses and properties with exterior cameras.â€"
