Helicopter Crashed Near Lehigh Valley Airport; Mother Slices 3yo w/ Machete; Stabbing at Soccer Game

Two people were injured when a small two-person helicopter crashed near Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) on Sunday afternoon, 8/11. It happened around 2:30 p.m. on the 900 block of Postal Road in Hanover Township. Lehigh Valley airport officials say that the Schweizer 269C helicopter departed from the ACE Pilot Training School at the airport. The two people aboard suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to St. Luke's Hospital. The Federal Aviation Administration and Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) are investigating.

A Philadelphia mother is under arrest after she allegedly attacked her 3-year-old daughter with a machete on Sunday evening, 8/11. It happened around 8:15 p.m. on the 5900 block of North Mascher Street in the Olney section. Police say that the mother sliced the little girl six times on her head, should, and knee. The girl was taken to Einstein Medical Center, but will be transferred to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. She is in critical but stable condition. The identity of the mother has not been released. "It appears as though the parent was under the influence of something," said police. Special Victims Unit is investigating.

UPDATE: The mother has been identified as 34-year-old Lauren Rodriguez. She will be charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault and other related charges. Police also say that they responded to this same location a week earlier when the victim's father also cut someone with a machete.

A man was stabbed to death when an argument during a neighborhood pickup soccer game escalated to deadly violence on Sunday afternoon, 8/11, in Northeast Philadelphia. It happened just after 4 p.m. at Max Meyers Recreation Center on the 1600 block of Hellerman Street in Oxford Circle. Police say that some people were playing a friendly game of soccer, when two men started arguing. Kids playing at the nearby basketball courts describe seeing one man pull out a knife and stab the other man multiple times before licking the knife and just walking away. The 30-year-old victim was taken to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not released. Police are working on a description of the attacker. No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information call police at 215-686-TIPS.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Franklin William de Souza. Police have taken the suspect into custody, he has not yet been identified.
