An armed car guard fired shots at two suspects who attempted to rob a Garda truck as it made a delivery near the University of Pennsylvania on Thursday morning. It happened around 10 a.m. at the PNC ATM on the corner of 35th and Market Street. The two suspects, dress in all black, were waiting for the delivery. The first guard was carrying duffle bags of money to the machine when one of the masked suspects pointed a rifle at him. The second suspect approached with a handgun and demanded the money. That is when the second guard fired shots at the suspects. They dropped the money and their weapons. The first suspect fled eastbound on Market Street. The second suspect got into a maroon Chevy Blazer and fled northbound on 36th Street. Police believe there was another person waiting in the vehicle. Police recovered the money as well as a glock 17 handgun and an assault rifle with a clip containing 4-50 rounds. Police are reviewing a lot of video from the area.

Seven Philadelphia Police officers have resigned in the wake of the recent social media scandal and controversy over racist and offensive Facebook posts made by officers. The posts were compiled in a database by the Plain View Project, and published by Injustice Watch, a not-for-profit journalism organization. After an investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department, 13 officers were suspended 30 days with the intent to dismiss. Other officers face lesser reprimands. The 7 officers who have now resigned are among the 13 who would have been fired in the coming weeks.

Police have made an arrest in connection to a case of elder abuse caught on video that was shared on social media last month. 19-year-old Shyaire Selon Romeo from Wilmington, Delaware, has been arrested and charged with simple assault and harassment. On July 19th, Westtown-East Goshen Regional Police Department received information from Delaware authorities about a video posted on social media. The video allegedly shows the suspect physically and verbally assaulting an elderly female patient inside a senior living facility in East Goshen Township, Chester County. The victim no longer resides at that facility and Romeo no longer works there. She was arraigned and released on $15,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 11.
