Philadelphia Police have issued an arrest warrant for a suspect wanted for an assault and attempted abduction in Center City last weekend. Authorities are looking for 28-year-old Vaughn Omar Clark. It happened about 6 a.m. on Sunday, 7/7. A 24-year-old woman was walking her dog on the 200 block of S. 13th Street when Clark allegedly got out of his vehicle and attacked the women. He punched her in the head and tried to get her into his vehicle. The woman was able to run away. The vehicle is described as a red Mitsubishi Galant with Pennsylvania tags: JTS-4065, with no hub caps on any tires. It may have an Uber emblem on the passenger side front and back windshields. Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
Police are investigating after almost a dozen teens stormed into a Philadelphia Wawa store and began throwing ice at customers. It happened around 3:45 p.m. on the 500 block of South 2nd Street near South Street in Society Hill. Around 10 teenagers entered the store, leaving their bikes outside. They began throwing ice around the store and at customers. They left and hopped on their bikes before police arrived. A similar, but larger, incident happened on July 4th at the Walgreens at 18th and South St.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has announced dozens of charges against three people for stealing over $300,000 from homeowners in an insurance fraud scheme. The owner of Ace Public Adjusters in Philadelphia, 56-year-old Anthony J. Hoffman, and his two employees, 35-year-old Deborah L. Felix (Hoffman's stepdaughter) and 35-year-old Hartman J. Wismer (Felix's fiance) are accused of defrauding over 30 people. They are charged with a total of 31 counts of fraud, 25 counts of theft by deception, 31 counts forgery, conspiracy, five counts of theft by deception, and four counts of issuing bad checks.
"Anthony Hoffman, Deborah Felix and Hartman Wismer are the very reason why we have an Economic Crimes Unit: so we can find and prosecute malicious businesses like Ace Public Adjusters that target, lie to, and steal from vulnerable homeowners who just want to repair their homes and resume their lives," Krasner said. "They not only lied and stole from these homeowners," Krasner said, "they took advantage of them during a period when they were confused, overwhelmed and vulnerable."
Ace Public Adjusters, located at 7930 Frankford Ave., would be hired by homeowners to represent them during the home insurance claim process. However, once a claim was settled Ace would only make partial or no payment to the homeowner of the insurance money. "Typically they did not pay at all," Krasner said. The DA's office believes there may be more victims. If you believe you are a victim of this scam, contact the DA's fraud hotline at 215-686-9902. |
