Wildwood Crest Swimming Ban Now Lifted; Wawa Hoagie Day, Patti LaBelle Honored; $100k Cash Stolen

A swimming ban in Wildwood Crest has been lifted after the ocean was closed on Monday, 7/1, due to a malfunction at a Cape May County wastewater treatment facility. The Cape May County Health Department lifted the ban on Tuesday morning, 7/2, after water test results were found acceptable. Sometime between Sunday afternoon and early Monday, the last of three phases at Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority's Seven-Mile Treatment Center failed to trigger. There is a treatment of chlorine in that phase that did not happen. The treated water is then sent through an outfall line that runs a mile into the ocean at Jefferson Avenue. The health department closed all areas within a one-mile radius of the outfall line. The ocean was closed off between Jefferson and Miami Avenues. The closure was precautionary and was lifted after a day.

Wawa Welcome America continued on Tuesday, 7/2, in Philadelphia. Between Noon and 2 p.m., Wawa handed out about 32,000 free hoagies at the National Constitution Center for the 27th Annual Wawa Hoagie Day. At 4 p.m., music legend and Philadelphia native Patti LaBelle was honored at a street naming ceremony. Broad and Spruce Sts. in the Avenue of the Arts in Center City will be called Patti LaBelle Way. The Kimmel Center's Great American Party on the Plaza takes place from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Philadelphia Police are looking for two suspects who crashed into another vehicle and stole $100,000 from the driver. It happened around 9:35 a.m. on the 2800 block of Randolph Street in South Philadelphia. A 44-year-old man cashed a $100,000 check at Whitman Check Cashing. He was driving away in his work van when he was t-boned by a white van near Bigler Street. Two hispanic males got out of the white van armed with guns. They pointed them at the man in the work van and demanded the money. They took the cash and fled in their van. Police have not said if the two suspects knew the man had a large sum of money with him in the truck before the crash and specifically targeted him. If you have any information contact police.
