Storms Create Flooding in New Jersey; Chester Co Animal Cruelty; Arrest in SEPTA Conductor Shooting

Rounds of heavy thunderstorms overnight Wednesday and early Thursday morning caused widespread flooding affecting residents and travelers across the Delaware Valley. PATCO service was suspended until Noon due to flooded stations and tracks. I-295 was closed in both directions because of flood waters. Dozens of people in the town of Westville, Gloucester County, NJ, were evacuated from their homes as flood waters turned the streets into a lake. The water was deep enough in some areas to completely submerge parked cars. Rescuers waded through chest deep water to reach residents. A Declaration of Emergency has also been announced for Burlington County, New Jersey. More severe weather is expected on Thursday so residents are urged to use caution.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty and neglect and possible child abuse after discovering the home in Chester County on Tuesday, 6/18. The discovery was made around 10:30 p.m. on the 100 block of Street Road in Upper Oxford Township. A passerby saw a child wandering on the road and called police. When authorities went to the home they found two rabbits, two dogs, one chicken and one large pig all dead and decomposing. "Inside the residence there was approximately four inches of sewage in the basement, bugs, maggots, flies, fleas and feces all over the residence," said State Police Corporal Robert Kirby. "No child, no adult, no animal should be living in that house. That's how bad it is." Three young children and an adult child lived at the residence with two other adults. Two of the children had black eyes. They are now with other family members. There were also 23 animals found alive; three cats, six kittens, one pig, eight dogs, one snake, one tarantula spider, two rats and one bearded dragon. There were in various health conditions. The investigation is ongoing.

SEPTA and Philadelphia policed announced on Thursday morning, 6/20, that they have arrested two suspects wanted in the shooting and attempted robbery of a train conductor last month. Jemil Wylie and Donel Mills were arrested for the incident. It happened on May 10 at the Carpenter Lane Station on Chestnut Hill West Regional Rail Line. The train had stopped at the station and the 57-year-old conductor stepped off the train and onto the platform when he was approached by Wylie and Mills. They demanded money. He pushed the men away and turned to get back on the train. Wylie then allegedly shot the conductor in the lower back. The pair then fled. The conductor survived his injuries.
