Odubel Herrera Waives Hearing, Leave Extended to 7/1; Missing Drexel Student; Scaffolding Collapse

Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera waived his court appearance in Atlantic City today, 6/17. He was arrested and charged with simple assault at the Golden Nugget Casino on May 27. Police responded to a report of domestic violence and found 27-year-old Herrera's 20-year-old girlfriend with visible injuries to her arm and neck. He was taken into custody that night and released on a summons. Major League Baseball initially placed Herrera on administrative leave for a week while they investigated. That leave was extended to today. MLB announced today that his leave is extended now to July 1 as the league continues to investigate. They could decide to suspend him without pay. He is in the third year of a five year contract with the Phillies. His next court appearance will be scheduled by the court.

Philadelphia Police are looking for a missing Drexel University student. 19-year-old Andrew Yun was last seen around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, 6/12, at Towers Hall on the 100 block of North 34th Street. He is 5'5", 125 pounds, with a thin build, light complexion, brown eyes, and black straight hair. Yun is a first-year student at the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design. UPDATE: 6/18 Missing Drexel Student 19-year-old Andrew Yun was found dead in Los Angeles. Foul play is not suspected in his death. "Drexel officials have been in close contact with Andrew's family and conveyed the entire Drexel community's sincerest condolences," the email read in part. "Andrew showed great promise and potential in his first year at Drexel. His loss is deeply felt by all of us in the Drexel community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Yun family during this most difficult time. We will continue to support them in any way possible."

Two men were rescued when scaffolding collapsed in University City on Monday afternoon, 6/17. It happened after 1 p.m. near 34th and Walnut Streets at the Van Pelt Building. The scaffolding they were standing on split in half. Luckily, they were both in their harnesses and properly secured. The men were just left hanging until firefighters arrived and raised a ladder. They only suffered minor cuts and bruises.
