PA AG Shapiro Sues Purdue over Opioids; Reward for SJ Fios Saboteur; Woman Drives Car Thru Bank Wall

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced that he is filing a lawsuit against Purdue Pharma, the creator of prescription opioid Oxycotin. Pennsylvania joins 38 other states to file suit against the giant pharmaceutical company at least partially blaming it for the country's opioid epidemic. PA has one of the highest opioid overdose rates in the country. The lawsuit comes after a two year investigation. Shapiro states that Purdue made 500,000 sales visits to doctor's offices since 2007 in the state. He said that Oxycotin was pushed as "non-addictive, appropriate for use for chronic pain and good for 12 hours." Purdue said in a statement that it "vigorously denies the allegations filed today in Pennsylvania and will continue to defend itself against these misleading attacks."

Verizon is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a serial saboteur in South Jersey. On at least 10 occasions over the past weeks in Camden and Burlington counties, someone has been making cuts to Verizon fiber-optic lines. It usually happens after midnight. Cherry Hill, Marlton, Evesham, and Shamong have been affected. With just one cut, a whole neighborhood could be blacked out. Fios service not only provides internet and television but also carries landline telephones and 911 access. That is this most important thing, to stop the vandal before someone gets hurt but can't call 911. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 and then Verizonâ€™s Security Control Center at 1-800-997-3287.

An elderly woman drove her car halfway through the brick side of a Wells Fargo bank branch in Aston, Delaware County, on Tuesday afternoon, 5/14. It happened around 2:30 p.m. on the 3500 block of Concord Road. It not known how she lost control. The front end of the car was inside a gaping hole in the wall and the rear end was outside. Three employees were trapped inside a room because the door was damaged. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
