$6k Reward In SEPTA Shooting, Video Released; PATCO Cancels Owl Changes; Man Dies in Rhawnhurst Fire

SEPTA Police Chief Tom Nestel announced a $6,000 reward for information that leads to the arrests of two suspects wanted in the shooting of a SEPTA Regional Rail conductor. Police have released surveillance footage from the train showing the two suspects on the platform just before the botched robbery. It happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday, 5/10, at the Carpenter Station in West Mount Airy. The suspects demanded cash from the conductor as he stepped off the train. He pushed back and headed back on board. One of the men then shot him in the hip. The suspects are described as black males in their early 20s. They were wearing grey hooded sweatshirts and fled on foot. The conductor was taken to the hospital and has since been released. If you have information call 215-546-TIPS (8477).

PATCO has announced that it is now canceling plans to change its overnight Owl Service. Last week, PATCO announced that they would start running trains every 60 minutes and close seven stations during overnight hours effective today, 5/13. The agency received a lot of opposition and negative feedback to that plan from both residents and elected officials. Later last week, they said it would push the roll-out to June 1st while looking at feedback. Today, they have scrapped all the plans and will continue service as usual. "I want to thank the public for their feedback and particularly mayors Teague, Rochford, and Maley," DRPA CEO and PATCO President John T. Hanson said Monday. "PATCO continues to study security concerns during the owl hours and I am creating a special task force led by DRPA Police Captain George Bollendorf to make recommendations about security on the owl service."

A young man was discovered dead after a house fire in Northeast Philadelphia on Monday afternoon, 5/13. It happened just before 4 p.m. on the 7500 block of Alma Street in Rhawnhurst. Firefighters found the man in his 20s unresponsive in the bathroom. He was pronounced dead shortly after. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
