Shooting Led to West Philly Hit-And-Run; Philly Uber Plans Strike May 8; Shooting Suspect Wanted

Philadelphia Police now say that a woman fatally struck in a supposed hit-and-run accident in West Philadelphia on Sunday morning was actually a passenger in the the vehicle and had jumped out. She has been identified as 36-year-old Abbra Johnson. It happened at 7:15 a.m. on the 4900 block of Aspen Street. The driver and Johnson were sitting inside a white Infiniti when they were approached by two men. One of those men opened fire on the car. The driver put the car in reverse and started backing down Aspen Street. The car side swiped three cars before Johnson tried to jump out. Captain Frank Milillo said she got caught under the front tire. The vehicle proceeded to hit another car. The driver then fled the scene. Uber drivers in Philadelphia and six other cities in the United States plan on striking next week on May 8th. The day coincides with the company's planned initial public offering on the stock market. The other cities include Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. Drivers will be turning off their apps and won't be accepting rides for 12 hours. Not all Uber drivers in Philadelphia will be participating. They are asking for higher wages, benefits, and more representation. Philadelphia drivers will rally at the Uber Greenlight Hub on Bartram Avenue at noon next Wednesday.

Philadelphia Police are searching for a suspect in a shooting in South Philadelphia early Monday morning. It happened around 1 a.m. on the 1300 block of Fitzwater Street. The 22-year-old victim was shot multiple times in the back, torso, and legs. He was taken to Jefferson University Hospital where he is in critical condition. The shooting happened outside the home of Faye Martin. She said the victim is the boyfriend of her granddaughter. It started 2 blocks away at the Sunoco gas station on the 800 block of Broad Street. The victim and shooter got into an argument at the gas station. The suspect then followed the victim home and opened fire outside. Police found six shell casings. Investigators are looking into surveillance cameras for footage of the suspect.
