4-Alarm Fire in Port Richmond; Man Dies in Skydiving Accident; THC Vape Pen Deal Leads to Stabbing

Philadelphia Firefighters are battling a four-alarm fire at Sepviva and East Butler streets in the city's Port Richmond section. They were first called to the scene around 7:22 p.m. and found heavy fire. The Thrifty Irishman building is described as a repurposed warehouse and is home to several businesses. There are approximately 60 fire apparatus and vehicles with more than 150 firefighters on scene. There are no injuries reported at this point. The cause is not known.

UPDATE: The fire was brought under control and contained around 10 pm. Firefighters expect to be on scene for several more hours continuing to put out hotspots.

A man died from an apparent sky diving accident in Williamstown, Monroe Township, NJ on Sunday afternoon, 4/7. The body of a dead man was found on Brookdale Blvd around 5:30 p.m. He had jumped from a plane operated by Skydive Cross Keys shortly before. A spokesperson with the company says the man was very experienced having done over 1,000 jumps. They also say that his parachute did deploy after exiting the plane. Witnesses on the ground say that there was no parachute on or near the victim. Monroe Township Police are investigating.

UPDATE: The man has been identified as 54-year-old Paul Haaf, Jr. of Monroe Township. The Gloucester County Medical Examiner's Office determined Haaf's cause of death was due to multiple injuries and ruled the manner of death accidental. The company said his main parachute deployed after exiting the plane, but it was not on or near him on the ground. His backup chute was still on him.

A teenager in Toms River has been arrested after stabbing a man several times while trying to sell him THC vape cartridges on Saturday, 4/6. 18-year-old Garret Latorre is charged with attempted murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession with intent to distribute less than an ounce of marijuana, and possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana. It happened in the parking lot of the Kmart and Toms River Fitness & Aquatic Center on Route 37 East. Latorre was attempting to sell the victim THC laced vape cartridges, but they got into some sort of argument. That is when Latorre stabbed him in the leg, stomach, and chest. The man was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and is in stable condition after surgery. Latorre fled the scene. Detectives found Latorre's address after determining the getaway vehicleâ€™s make, model and license plate. Officials found him at home with blood still on his hands. He is being held at Ocean County Jail.
